FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why is there a screening process?
All of our dogs are screened for good temperament, acceptable social behavior and health issues. We have a "zero tolerance" policy for aggressive behavior to ensure the safety of all the dogs in our care.
Not only is this a chance for us to understand your canine, their specific personality, energy level, social skills and needs, but it is also a chance for you to sit down with us one on one and ask any questions you may have, see the facility and help us understand and fulfill your dogs needs while in our care.
What vaccinations are required?
We require proof of vaccination for Rabies (after 6 months of age) Distemper, Parvo, and Bordetella (Kennel Cough.) This is mandatory even for the screening and will be checked upon arrival.
Why do new dogs start Monday mornings?
All of our new clients are required to start on a Monday morning no later than 7:30 a.m. This is absolutely to the benefit of creating the best possible day and experience for your canine.
We have a higher ratio of staff to dogs on those days, which enables us to more accurately observe, assess, redirect and teach UC etiquette as well as love and encourage your pet. The early start elevates your dog’s status by being first in, and allows them time to meet all the gang one on one as they arrive which is far less daunting and stressful then being introduced to a large number of dogs all at once.
Why must you attend once a week?
At Urban Canine, we strive to create a balanced environment of socialization and fun. We believe in consistency. This helps dogs feel secure and comfortable not only in their surrounding, but also in the pack. Being away for long stretches, or an inconsistent routine can cause insecurity and stress and we always aim to make daycare a safe and happy place.
Are all the Dogs together or are they separated?
Dogs are grouped according to their energy level, size and social skills to ensure all the canines are happy, comfortable and getting the maximum benefit and enjoyment out of their day.
How old does my dog need to be to attend?
We accept canines in to the program when they have had their second set of booster shots (usually given at 12 weeks) and also their Bordetella vaccination.
Is my dog supervised during the day?
All canines in our care are supervised 100% of the day guaranteed! Our staffing is predetermined by the number of dogs on any given day, to ensure that no matter the number of canines in our care they all have full supervision.
What can I expect on my dogs first day?
Along with being there early that first Monday morning we ask that you ensure all of your dogs items are clearly labeled. This includes but is not limited to: leashes, harnesses, seat belts, etc coats/sweaters, food containers and nap time bags.
Upon your arrival please be sure your pet has had time to relieve themselves as it may be up to a half hour before they are introduced to our outdoor space. Coming to daycare will be very exciting making it harder to hold, especially for younger dogs.
In our reception area, one of our staff will take your dog on leash into the facility. Please find your dogs name on our sign in list, note the time of drop off as well as your estimated pick up time. This is so that we can have all your dogs items, (nap time bag, leash etc.) ready for you as well as having your dog dry and brushed out after a full day of fun.
When you come to pick up your pooch one of our staff will not only be able to go over the details of your canines full day, but will also provide you with a written "report card" to answer any additional questions you might have.
Do you offer any type of specialized care?
Yes! There may be many different needs that your dog requires and we are more then happy and able to provide custom care.
If your dog requires any medication or drops, we will administer in a timely fashion as per your specifications. We will also accommodate dogs after surgeries or with physical injuries and customize their day according to their needs for that day.
Also, if your dogs is out of sorts for any reason please let us know. Sometimes things such as a change in relationships or accomodations and your own personal stress can reflect in your dogs behaviour. We strongly encourage communication of every kind. If your dog is feeling "off" we need to know so we may provide them with the care that best suits them for the day.
Is there anything I need to bring for my dog?
There is nothing additional you need to bring for your dog besides a regular clip release collar (we do NOT allow Martingale, chains, prongs or other types of collar for safety reasons) and a leash.
How do I book my days?
You can book your days with us by calling, emailing or while at Urban Canine. We do require a 24 hour notice for any cancellation to allow us to fill that spot with another client who may want or need it.
